PEOPLE IS THE CHANGE
I’m very excited about this particular time that we’re living in.
Although we’re seeing so many challenges around us, the so-called economic crisis, what I’m seeing arising in people around the globe is a growing interest of going back to an independence from the great machine, and breaking down to small groups again, not necessarily living in communities the way I lived for 30 years, or so, but returning to understand that the old ways have a lot of sense.
And they’re making a lot more sense to younger people now because they realize that to be dependent on supermarkets, on multi-national companies, on big organizations, and big government bodies just doesn’t work anymore.
More and more people are rethinking what they can do. People are seeing there is a whole range of initiatives to regain a sense of belonging and do something for themselves, not only growing food, but being more economical in the way they live: sharing cars, sharing transport, buying local instead of buying things that have been transported halfway around the planet.

The beauty of working with networks is that you are able to witness successful experiences of retrieval of resources, of seed exchange.
I hope people begin to question things, to start wishing to change things, and to start feeling something is moving inside them. I hope that together we will offer a message that the world doesn’t have to be the way it is now, that change is possible, and to start walking towards it. I do hope so. And then each one will build their own alternative, learning from each other the way we’re doing it.
We talk about «Utopia», but personally I don’t see it as something impossible. It also has the meaning of «horizon». There’s people already living the change, producing differently, living differently, who are already there, walking a new path. So I see Utopia as the horizon we’re aiming to, not as something impossible. I believe it is possible and it is already happening.

And now I’ve come out here to a mountain in Andalusia, the land of light. And on this mountain, every night, almost without exception, I can see stars again from horizon to horizon and I know I’m still connected to a greater plan, I’m still connected, visibly, to creation. The fog isn’t around me anymore.
We don’t have to find a mountain to live on. We can connect through the eyes of a loved one, through a child, through an adult. But remember, we came in with nothing and we go out with nothing. But we can chose to leave behind a part of a library, a living library of life, a record of our time here on this planet. My journey, in my abilities as best as I’m able is to leave a good record for others to use.
I believe it has a spiritual aspect to it but I wouldn’t impose that or suggest that others ‘should’ have a spiritual awareness. But I believe that is core to it. I just want to leave that record to the best of my ability: to give something back to the collective consciousness of humanity that improves the quality of life on this beautiful planet.
